If you give a little more then you're asking for your love will turn the key

Artist – Andy Gibb
Song of the Day – I just want to be your Everything

I was going to post a super depressing song that may fit my
mood slightly more but then I heard this song in passing and it just made me so
happy. I love the Bee Gees but I really loved their little brother. He was like
disco but with a guitar, bomber jacket but with no shirt, just enough edge to
be slightly cooler than disco but still as fun…but honestly it’s all disco and
all fun.

So I have no deep meaning for this song just sometimes you
need a good pop tune. You need a little optimism you need to know if you give a
little more love than you want it just might make the world of difference to
someone and to you. So for all the optimists, the lovers, the bomber jacket
wearers, this one’s for you.
-->

For so long
You and me been finding each other for so long
And the feeling that I feel for you is more then strong, girl
Take it from me
If you give a little more then you're asking for your love will turn the key
Darling, mine
I would wait forever for those lips of wine
Build my world around you, darling, this love will shine girl
Watch it and see
If you give a little more then you're asking for, your love will turn the key
I, I just want to be your everything
Open up the heaven in your heart and let me be
The things you are to me and not some puppet on a string
Oh, if I stay here without you, darling, I will die
I want you laying in the love I have to bring
I'd do anything to be your everything
Darling, for so long
You and me been finding each other for so long
And the feeling that I feel for you is more then strong, girl
Take it from me
If you give a little more then you're asking for tour love will turn the key
I, I just want to be your everything
Open up the heaven in your heart and let me be
The things you are to me and not some puppet on a string
Oh, if I stay here without you, darling, I will die
I want you laying in the love I have to bring
I'd do anything to be your everything
I, I just want to be your everything
Open up the heaven in your heart and let me be
The things you are to me and not some puppet on a string
Oh, if I stay here without you, darling, I will die
I want you laying in the love I have to bring
I'd do anything to be your everything

I'm thinking 'bout who I want, and I won't let go

Artist - Emily King
Song of the Day - Can't Hold Me

I first discovered today’s artist while following one of my
fav dancers, Nicholas Palmquist, teaching choreography to one of King’s songs….and
before you ask of course I don’t take dance classes. Like any normal person I follow
a bunch of ballet dancer boys on Instagram and live out my “Center Stage”
dreams. Speaking of, one of my other fav dancers, Robbie Fairchild, has been
performing much of King’s catalog on New York rooftops during this isolation
which makes me so happy and also made me realize that King’s entire catalog is
glorious and if you need a dancy pick me up take the time to listen through it.

Today’s song seemed appropriate since it’s discovering what
you can do for yourself better than anyone…. sure it might be implying
something specifically (insert blush here). But whatever you may be figuring
out about yourself or dancing on empty rooftops through, this one’s for you.
-->

In the night, in the middle of the day
I call you over, but you always hesitate
Used to tell me, "You should leave it up to fate."
Now I that I never have to wait
Close my eyes, let down my hair
I'm thinking 'bout what I want, gonna take me there
Turn the dial on the stereo
I'm thinking 'bout who I want, and I won't let go
You can't hold me down, only I can do that
You can't hold me down, only I can do that
You can't hold me down, only I can do that
You can't hold me down, hold me down
In a T-shirt, in my satin lingerie
A little lower, little higher, change pace
Used to wait here, but you'd always be too late
Now I can go here, and I never have to fake
Close my eyes, let down my hair
I'm thinking 'bout what I want, gonna take me there
Turn the dial on the stereo
I'm thinking 'bout who I want, and I won't let go
You can't hold me down, only I can do that
You can't hold me down, only I can do that
You can't hold me down, only I can do that
You can't hold me down, hold me down
A-ya-oh-wa-oh-oh
A-ya-oh-wa, ooh ooh, you can't hold me!
A-ya-oh-wa-oh-oh
A-ya-oh-wa, ooh ooh, you can't hold me!
Thought you were my only love
But I found someone with the perfect touch
And ooh-wa, you can't hold me
I don't want to waste your time
Got a secret and it's mine all mine
Ooh-wa, you can't hold me
I used to have to wait around
Stay home, baby, I can hold it down
Ooh-wa, you can't hold me
Now I don't have to look no more
I'm the one that I've been waiting for
Ooh-wa, you can't hold me
A-ya-oh-wa-oh-oh
A-ya-oh-wa, ooh ooh, you can't hold me!
A-ya-oh-wa-oh-oh
A-ya-oh-wa, ooh ooh, you can't hold me!
A-ya-oh-wa-oh-oh
A-ya-oh-wa, ooh ooh, you can't hold me!
A-ya-oh-wa-oh-oh
A-ya-oh-wa, ooh ooh, you can't hold me!

And the days thin me out Or just burn me straight through

Artist -Soccer Mommy
Song of the day - Circle the drain

When I first heard today’s song this morning on NPR TinyDesk home edition, I first thought Soccer Mommy was a 90s female rock artist I
somehow missed as a teen. She has that Lilith Fair sound that is so
specifically a different era you had no idea sounded so specific and I love it…and
it also makes me want to pull out all my old Liz Phair cds asap.

It’s strange how timely songs written prior to the pandemic
seem appropriate now. Today’s song is no exception. It literally talks about
feeling so messed up on the inside while on the outside you’re just sitting on
your couch watching TV and everything appears fine and normal. What a strange
time. So if you’re starting to feel like you’re circling the drain and or just really
missing a Lilith Fair concert, this one’s for you.

-->

I wanna be calm like the soft
Summer rain on your back
Like the fall of your shoulders
But everything just brings me back down
To the cold hard ground
And it keeps getting colder
It's a feeling that boils in my brain
I would dial back the flame
But I'm not sure I'm able
I'm wobbling out on the wire
And the lights could go out
With the break of a cable
Things feel that low sometimes
Even when everything is fine
Hey, I've been falling apart these days
Split open, watching my heart go round and around
Round and around
Circle the drain
I'm going down
I'm trying to seem strong for my love
For my family and friends
But I'm so tired of faking
'Cause I'm chained to my bed when they're gone
Watching TV alone
'Til my body starts aching
And I think there's a mold in my brain
Spreading down all the way
Through my heart and my body
'Cause I cling to the dark of my room
And the days thin me out
Or just burn me straight through
Things feel that low sometimes
Even when everything is fine
Hey I've been falling apart these days
Split open watching my heart go round and around
Round and around
Circle the drain
I'm going down
Things feel that low sometimes
Even when everything is fine
Hey, I've been falling apart these days
Split open, watching my heart go round and around
Round and around
Circle the drain
I'm going down
Round and around
Round and around
Circle the drain
I'm going down

I was shining in the moment And I'm holding onto you

Song of the Day - Something about you
Artist - Elderbrook and Rudimental

I keep seeing a lot of post about about who people are
staying home for during the pandemic like their grandma or baby or immune compromised
friend to try to sway the jerks who keep partying in groups or going on spring
break because they will most likely stay healthy. It got me thinking about
today’s song that has more to do with recovery but has a lot of similarities to
now. Because you are doing something that’s kind of tough while missing the
life you once had because of someone.

It’s also how I feel about going to work. I love how awkward
this video is, about a bunch of dudes sitting in a circle afraid to open up and
be vulnerable with each other that they know will lead to healing. And I have a
similar fear in the back of my mind walking to work each day, or when I’m
gowning up in ridiculous garb to go in a dangerous situation where I know I’ll
be vulnerable. It’s scary, but then I look at who is with me in the room. A
doctor, a tech, a nurse, with similar worry in their eyes but a resolve at an
attempt at healing. And then my fear eases a bit, not that the situation has
changed, but that they are with me and we’re in it together. Vulnerable
together, looking for healing together. And sure it’s expressed in an absurd
line dance in the video, which by the way someone learn this dance with me, but
it gets the same point across. So for whoever you are staying in for or going
into that scary place for or with, this one’s for you.
-->
I miss the touch of morning sun
Making silhouettes of us
Way back when we had our bad times
We're staying up all through the night
Smoking, drinking, getting high
I was wrong and I apologize
Where did you go? What can I do?
I'm working on my problems
But I need you here to solve them
Where did you go? What should I say?
I hope that I can make a change 'cause
'Cause something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was shining in the moment
And I'm holding onto you
'Cause something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was shining in the moment
And I'm holding onto you
'Cause something 'bout you
You keep straightening me up when I'm low
'Cause something 'bout you
You keep straightening me up when I'm low
I miss the company we had
Back when I was still on track
Now I'm making my own paradise
But now the drink is tasting strange
And the high isn't the same
I'm still wrong and I apologize
Where did you go? What can I do?
I'm working on my problems
But I need you here to solve them
Where did you go? What should I say?
I hope that I can make a change 'cause
'Cause something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was shining in the moment
And I'm holding onto you
'Cause something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was shining in the moment
And I'm holding onto you
'Cause something 'bout you
You keep straightening me up when I'm low
'Cause something 'bout you
You keep straightening me up when I'm low
'Cause something 'bout you
Keeping me sober
I was shining in the moment
And I'm holding onto you
Ooh, oh, holding onto you
Oh, holding onto you
Oh, holding onto you
'Cause something 'bout you
You keep straightening me up when I'm low
(And I've been falling)
'Cause something 'bout you
You keep straightening me up when I'm low
(And I've been falling)
'Cause something 'bout you

Well, it's the same old song, it's right an' it's wrong, An' livin' is just somethin' that I do.

Song of the Day - Hands on the Wheel
Artist - Willie Nelson, Madison Cunningham

As I said yesterday, one of the things I most appreciate at this time is all
the creative home concerts musicians have been doing. If you are familiar with
Live from Here (formally Prairie Home Companion), the host Chris Thile as
become "Live from Home" challenging various artist to play from their
respective homes for us in our respective homes. There have been many great
posts so far I’m sure I’ll revisit here later. But yesterday it was Madison
Cunningham’s cover of Willie Nelson that was so sweet so melancholy I couldn’t
resist it.
So many of us are experiencing the world differently right now even going
through the exact same crisis. I feel like the last week I’ve been going nonstop
in the ER. And even at home, people’s thoughts are racing nonstop with the new
info changing info new fears, new hopes, etc. But this song is a totally
different mood during a world flipped upside down. It’s melancholy, it’s observant,
it’s simple, it’s country, and boy it makes me miss home. So if you need a
break from your racing thoughts, this one’s for you.

At a time when the world seems to be spinnin' hopelessly out of control,

There's deceivers an' believers an' old in-betweeners,

That seem to have no place to go.

Well, it's the same old song, it's right an' it's wrong,

An' livin' is just somethin' that I do.

An' with no place to hide, I looked in your eyes,

An' I found myself in you.

I looked to the stars, tried all of the bars.

An' I've nearly gone up in smoke.

Now my hand's on the wheel, I've something that's real,

An' I feel like I'm goin' home.

An' in the shade of an oak down by the river,

Sit an old man an' a boy,

Settin' sail, spinnin' tales an' fishin' for whales,

With a lady they both enjoy.

Well, it's the same damn tune, it's the man in the moon.

It's the way that I feel about you.

An' with no place to hide, I looked in your eyes,

An' I found myself in you.

An' I looked to the stars, tried all of the bars.

An' I've nearly gone up in smoke.

Now my hand's on the wheel, I've something that's real,

An' I feel like I'm goin' home.

I believe in dreams again I believe that love will never end

Song of the day - I Believe in You and Me
Atrist - Whitney Houston

I’m really enjoying the home concerts some musicians are putting on right now. Whether
just a song or hour long shows each day, tons of artists are trying new ways to
reach their audience right now, so if you have a favorite I def recommend checking
to see what they might have going on right now. And many are raising funds for
the arts, food banks etc. too.

I was reminded of today’s song whilst scrolling through Instagram at 4 in the morning having
trouble sleeping. Ariana Grande posted a cover of this most fabu Whitney
Houston song that I totally forgot about and often shove under with the list of
Christmas movie soundtracks. But hearing her quiet acapella version gave a
deeper weight and feeling of hope through our current struggle. That belief we
can still find in each other and still believe in what seems so insurmountable
right now. And then when you re-listen to the powerhouse Houston version you
just may believe in miracles again. So for all we still believe in and what we
hope to be, this one’s for you.

I believe in you and me
I believe that we will be
In love eternally
As far as I can see
You will always be
The one for me
Oh yes you will
I believe in dreams again
I believe that love will never end
And like the river finds the sea
I was lost now I'm free
I believe in you and me
I will never leave your side
I will never hurt your pride
When all the chips are down
I will always be around
Just to be right there where you are my love
Oh I love you boy
I will never leave you out
I will always let you in
To places no one's ever been
Deep inside can't you see
I believe in you and me
Maybe I'm a fool
To feel the way I do
But I would play the fool forever
Just to be with you forever
I believe in miracles
Love's a miracle
And baby you're a dream come true
I was lost now I'm free
I believe in you and me
I was lost now I'm free girl
I believe in you and me

Want to grab a hold of that little song bird Take her for a ride to the top of the world right now

Song of the Day - Top of the World
Artist - Dixie Chicks

I woke up with this song in my head this morning and it doesn’t seem to want to leave me. Which I’m fine with cuz I really love it and them, but not really sure why I can’t get it out of my mind. I guess when you’re sitting alone with your thoughts long enough during a pandemic you start thinking about your life and what it’s all been about, what you regret or missed out on…but I also feel like it’s realizing what we are actively losing right before our eyes: mass amounts of people, jobs, livelihood, art, and on and on.

And we don’t really have anymore control of it at this point. (I mean we do, stay inside people) But it’s a strange loss because we are all going through it collectively and isolated at the same time. Like that line “'everyone's singing We just want to be heard Disappearing everyday without so much as a word.” And sure I’m concerned about my own mortality but it’s like you can feel that weight the entire world is feeling and it’s such a bizarre state of mind. I don’t know if anyone else feels that or if this makes sense at all… and if not we can always just blame Patty Griffin for consistently writing such beautiful punch to the soul songs. But if you are feeling a bit of that heavy world, this one’s for you, may we reach the top of it.

I wished I was smarter
I wished I was stronger
I wished I loved Jesus
The way my wife does
I wish it had been easier
Instead of any longer
I wished I could have stood where you would have been proud
But that won't happen now
That won't happen now
There's a whole lot of singing that's never gonna be heard
Disappearing everyday without so much as a word somehow
Think I broke the wings off that little song bird
She's never gonna fly to the top of the world right now
Top of the world
I don't have to answer any of these questions
Don't have no God to teach me no lessons
I come home in the evening
Sit in my chair
One night they called me for supper
But I never got up
I stayed right there in my chair
There's a whole lot of singing that's never gonna be heard
Disappearing everyday without so much as a word somehow
Think I broke the wings off that little song bird
She's never gonna fly to the top of the world right now
I wished I'd a known you
Wished I'd a shown you
All of the things I was on the inside
I'd pretend to be sleeping
When you come in in the morning
To whisper good-bye
Go to work in the rain
I don't know why
Don't know why
'Cause everyone's singing
We just want to be heard
Disappearing everyday without so much as a word somehow
Want to grab a hold of that little song bird
Take her for a ride to the top of the world right now
To the top of the world
To the top of the world
To the top of the world
To the top of the world
To the top of the world
To the top of the world
To the top of the world
To the top of the world
