That wind, it just ain't right I made up my mind I'm headin' home

Artist- Court Yard Hounds featuring Jakob Dylan
Song of the day- See you in the Spring

My Dixie Chicks love continues with today's song and my most favorite tune off the spin off album. I like to think it encompasses my bittersweet love for both Chicago and Texas and seems an appropriate song as I head back to the windy city from the lone star state and back to the the harsh reality of winter, school, and also much that I've missed. So here's to two places I love and can't seem to stay at for too long.

Cold Chicago nights
Chains on tires
You're diggin' out snow
That wind, it just ain't right
I made up my mind
I'm headin' home

Well babe, can't you give it time?
I'll keep you warm at night
This town is all I know
And I could see you in my life
Stay inside (I can't go outside)
Just please don't go (so I gotta go)

'Cause baby, your Winter is nothing but prison
It drives me away
And maybe, come Summer, then we'll be together
Our time will come again
'Til then I'll see you in the Spring
Ah, so don't throw it all away
Throw it all away…

The end of Spring and June arrives
Won't you take a flight?
Come down to San Antone
That heat, feels like I'm on fire
No, it just ain't right
It makes me sweat at night
I'd rather be alone
(It's just not right…it's just not right to be so alone)

'Cause baby, your Summer is nothing but prison
It drives me away
And maybe, come Winter, we can't be together
But love will come again
'Til then I'll see you in the Spring
Ah, so don't throw it all away
Throw it all away

You know I live just to see your eyes
I'll meet you half way
I'll meet you half way by the runaway sign
(Makes me fall when for me you'll find a way,
I'll find you baby)

'Cause baby, your Winter is nothing but prison
It drives me away
And maybe, come Summer, we can't be together
Our time will come again
When I'll see you in the Spring
Ah, so don't throw it all away

Ah, don't throw it away

Ah, so don't throw it all away… throw it all away

But I, I could never follow

Artist- Dixie Chicks
Song of the day- Taking the long way

There are many songs I'm pretty positive are just about me, which like I've always said means everyone feels that way and therefore it's a well written song. Today's song is one of them. My dad has always joked with me that I don't know how to do anything easy. If there is a harder or longer way to do something I'll find it. And like a good daughter I have surpassed that potential by always taking the long way around in life. Whether it was moving, jobs, education, "finding myself", God, and on and on has always been my own unique aka very different than the usual way. Don't ask me why this is because even when I try to fight it I'm pretty sure it's just how God made me. He has a sense of humor that way, which might laugh me all the way into college debt for the rest of my life, but at least I'll be laughing and living the only way I know how, the way God leads me. So here's to you wayward travelers may you keep on your path, no matter where it leads or how long it takes you to get there.

My friends from high school
Married their high school boyfriends
Moved into houses in the same ZIP codes
Where their parents live

But I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow

I hit the highway in a pink RV with stars on the ceiling
Lived like a gypsy
Six strong hands on the steering wheel

I've been a long time gone now
Maybe someday, someday I'm gonna settle down
But I've always found my way somehow

By taking the long way
Taking the long way around
Taking the long way
Taking the long way around

I met the queen of whatever
Drank with the Irish and smoked with the hippies
Moved with the shakers
Wouldn't kiss all the asses that they told me to

No I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow

It's been two long years now
Since the top of the world came crashing down
And I'm getting' it back on the road now

But I'm taking the long way
Taking the long way around
I'm taking the long way
Taking the long way around
The long
The long way around

Well, I fought with a stranger and I met myself
I opened my mouth and I heard myself
It can get pretty lonely when you show yourself
Guess I could have made it easier on myself

But I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow

Well, I never seem to do it like anybody else
Maybe someday, someday I'm gonna settle down
If you ever want to find me I can still be found

Taking the long way
Taking the long way around
Taking the long way
Taking the long way around

hold on not my fairy tale you're trying to start

Artist- Kings of Leon
Song of the day- King of the Rodeo

I fell in love with Kings of Leon one hot summer day at Lollapalooza several years back when I was searching for a bathroom (which is about 65% of my life) and heard Caleb Followill's voice over a hill. And let me tell you I hold my bladder for very little, but there is something more to this obvious rock band, besides the dreaminess. And lately I've been playing this older tune of theirs on repeat. I don't know if I find it extra charming whilst in Texas or the riff is just too good. And the video makes me miss my southern childhood and square dancing, though I do not miss Followill's long locks and find air bull riding to be quite disturbing. And though I am quite the opposite of a lot of Texans, I am secretly sad I was never a cowgirl king of the rodeo.

He's so purity, a shaven and a mourning,
and standing on a Pigeon toe, in his dissarray

Straight in the picture pose,
he's coming around to meet you

And screaming like a battle cry, its more if i stay

Me and your cold, Driving in the snow,
let the good times roll, let the good times roll
Cowgirl king of the rodeo, let the good times roll,
let the good times roll

How dare you some to me like withnail for a favor,
hold on not my fairy tale you're trying to start

Take off your overcoat, you're staying for the weekend,
and swaying like a smokey grey, a drink in the park

Good time to roll on.

I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

Artist- Counting Crows
Song of the day- Long December

I wanted to make sure I got this most excellent song in before December ends. Oh Counting Crows how you make me miss Hollywood, the ocean and actually enjoy dreadlocks. As we hit the end of the year and prone to look back on the year maybe all the times aren't great ones, or worse, maybe we see all the times we weren't great. But the great thing about time is it keeps moving and there is a whole year ahead of us for things to get better, more chances for us to be better, to say things we didn't or take back what we did, to forgive when we couldn't or ask for it, more times and memories to have and share and hold onto. Or see the ocean, it feels like I haven't seen it in a while either.

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leaving
Oh the days go by so fast

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven
I wish you would
(Na na na, etc. yeah)

The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think you might come to California
I think you should
(Na na na, etc. yeah)

Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after 2 a.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since I've seen the ocean
I guess I should
(Na na na, etc. yeah)

Happy golden days of yore Faithful friends who were dear to us Will be near to us once more

Artist-Judy Garland
Song of the day- Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas

A think the best song to wrap up my holiday blogs is filled with a little bit of remembrance, a little bit of appreciation, a little bit of sadness, a little bit of class and a little bit of crazy only Judy Garland can provide. I hope today has brought you much joy and love. Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas! Now back to my "A Christmas Story" marathon (I've seen the frozen tongue to pole seen 6 times today) and eating, I haven't eaten in twenty minutes so it's about time to start again.

Judy Garland-Have Yourself A Merry Little Christma… - MyVideo

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be
out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yule-tide gay
Next year all our troubles will be
miles away
Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us
Will be near to us once more
Someday soon, we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Breath of Heaven Hold me together Be forever near me

Artist- Amy Grant
Song of the day- Breath of heaven

My most favorite christmas album comes from Amy Grant. I'm not saying it's the most artistically sound but it reminds me of sitting in the dark under the list christmas tree with my mom after we decorated it and how peaceful it was. It also reminds me of Christmas Eve and our church candlelight service where one of the my friends I grew up with the most amazing voice would sing this song. Even though I've heard her sing it many times it never gets old and still gives me goose bumps. I like how it humanizes The Christmas Story, that it gets behind the emotions of one young girls heart who doesn't understand so many things but keeps going regardless. The human spirit trusting in something when they can't do it themselves. Kind of a miracle. Merry Christmas Eve everybody.

I have traveled
Many moonless night
Cold and Weary
With a babe inside
And I wonder
What I've done
Holy Father
You have come
Chosen me now
To carry your son

I am waiting
in a silent prayer
I am frightened
by the load i bear
In a world as cold as stone
Must I walk this path alone
Be with me now
Be with me now

[chorus:]
-----------------------------------
Breath of Heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of Heaven

Breath of Heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me, your holyness
For your holy Breath of Heaven
-----------------------------------

Do you wonder
As you watch my face
If a wiser one, should of had my place
But I offer-all I am
For the mercy-of your plan
Help me be strong
Help me be
Help me

You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel

Artist- Thurl Ravenscroft
Song of the day- You're a mean one Mr. Grinch

To this day I can't celebrate Christmas without seeing the original cartoon version of my fav Dr. Seuss book and luckily tonight it was on TV so I'm officially allowed to move forward in my Christmas celebrations. It encompasses my fascination with cruelty and the power of love and that maybe sometimes it can be more than an optimistic hope that kindness and love can actually grow a heart three sizes. That you can believe, especially this time of year that a magic like this can not only occur in cartoons but real life too. My hope is that you feel that power today and your heart or better still you are the cause of someone else's heart growing three sizes today.

You're a mean one Mr Grinch
You really are a heel
Youre as cuddly as a cactus
You're as charming as an eel
Mr. Grinch
Youre a bad banana with a greasy black peel

You're a monster Mr. Grinch
Your Hearts an empty hole
Your brain is full of spiders
Youve got garlic in your soul Mr. Grinch
I wouldnt touch you with a
39 and a half Foot pole

Youre a vile one Mr. Grinch
You have termites in your smile
You have all the tender sweetness of a seasick crocodile
Mr. Grinch
Given the choice between the two of you
Id take the a seasick crocodile

Youre a foul one Mr. Grinch
Youre a nasty wasty skunk
Your heart is full of unwashed socks,
Your soul is full of gunk
Mr. Grinch

The 3 words that best describe you, are as follows, and I quote
Stink, Stank, Stonk

Youre a rotter Mr. Grinch
Youre the king of sinful sots
Your hearts a dead tomato splotched with moldy purple spots
Mr. Grinch

Your sole is an appalling dump heap
Overflowing with the most disgraceful
Assortment of deplorable rubbish
Imaginable, mangled up in tangled up knots

You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch
With a nauseous super naus
Youre a crooked jerky jockey and,
you drive a crooked horse
Mr. Grinch

Youre a 3 Decker sour kraut and toad stool sandwich
With arsenic sauce!

Everyone's dancing merrily In a new old fashioned way

Artist- Brenda Lee
Song of the day- Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

It wouldn't quite be Christmas without a child being abandoned at home for my own personal entertainment. This movie altered my seven year old fear of being left at home by myself into a fun alternative of fighting crime and propping my dolls and stuffed animals up on the train around my christmas tree and dance around to this song pretending to have a big 'ol party and avoid being robbed. Awe childhood, such fun I had. So if you're dancing with criminals, stuffed animals, or loved ones, have a happy hol-holiday!

Rocking around the Christmas Tree
at the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Ev'ry couple tries to stop

You will get a sentimental feeling When you hear voices singing
"Let's be jolly; Deck the halls with boughs of holly" Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone's dancing merrily
In a new old fashioned way

Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Let the Christmas Spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
and we'll do some caroling

You will get a sentimental feeling When you hear voices singing
"Let's be jolly; Deck the halls with boughs of holly"
Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone's dancing merrily
In a new old fashioned way

Better not pout I'm telling you why

Artist- Jackson 5
Song of the day- Santa Clause is coming to town

So one year when I was trapped at a receptionist desk during the holidays I made one of my greatest friends (an assistant to a producer) by passing office hours learning how to make paper snowflakes, very ugly non Martha Stewart snowflakes with my un-crafty hands, all whilst listening to the Jackson 5 Christmas album. And though I don't miss a lot about office life, I do miss those ugly snowflake making days and really great Michael Jackson sing-a-thons. So whether you are watching the clock at your desk till Christmas or being crafty or having sing along with friends. This one's for you!

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

Santa can you hear me?

Artist- Britney Spears
Song of the Day- Only wish this year

Though I do love the Christmas classics, the secret pop lover inside me thoroughly enjoys this little ditty cuz there really isn't enough dancing during christmas and who better to fix that than Ms Spears herself. So embrace the cheez of the holidays with me and shake that jolly rump for baby Jesus!

Last night I took a walk in the snow.
Couples holding hands, places to go
Seems like everyone but me is in love.

Santa can you hear me
I signed my letter that I sealed with a kiss
I sent it off
It just said this
I know exactly what I want this year.
Santa can you hear me.
I want my baby (baby, yeah)
I want someone to love me someone to hold me.
Maybe (maybe, maybe maybe.) he'll be all my own in a big red bow

Santa can you hear me?
I have been so good this year and all I want is one thing
Tell me my true love is near
He's all I want, just for me underneath my christmas tree
I'll be waiting here.
Santa thats my only wish this year.
oohhh ohh yeah
Christmas Eve I just can't sleep
Would I be wrong for taking a peek?
Cause I heard that your coming to town

Santa can you hear me? (yea yeah)
Really hope that your on your way
With something special for me in your sleigh
Ohh please make my wish come true
Santa can you hear me
I want my baby (baby)
I want someone to love me someone to hold me
Maybe (maybe maybe) we'll be all the love under the mistletoe

Santa can you hear me
I have been so good this year
And all I want is one thing
Tell me my true love is near
He's all I want just for me
Underneath my christmas tree
I'll be waiting here santa thats my only wish this year
I hope my letter reaches you in time
Bring me love can call all mine
(yeah yeah) cause I have been so good this year.

Can't be alone under the mistletoe
He's all want and a big red bow
Santa can you hear me (hear me?)
I have been so good this year
And all i want is one thing
Tell me my true love is near
He's all I want. just for me
Underneath my christmas tree
I'll be waiting here (ohh yeah) santa thats my only wish this year
Oh santa can u hear me? oh santa
Well hes all I want just for me underneath my Christmas tree
Oh I'll be waiting here
Santa thats my only wish this year.

Our hearts were singing It felt like christmastime

Artist- The Pretenders
Song of the Day- 2000 Miles

I get to leave the freezing weather of Chicago to spend the holidays with my family in Texas tomorrow, and whenever I travel on Christmas I always think of this fantabulous song and that no matter where I go there are always people far away that I'll be missing. So here's to you who might be away from some of the ones you love on Christmas and to the ones you get to be back with on Chirstmastime.

He's gone 2000 miles
It's very far
The snow is falling down
Gets colder day by day
I miss you

The children will sing
He'll be back at christmastime

In these frozen and silent nights
Sometimes in a dream you appear
Outside under the purple sky
Diamonds in the snow sparkle
Our hearts were singing
It felt like christmastime

2000 miles
Is very far through the snow
I'll think of you
Wherever you go

He's gone 2000 miles
It's very far
The snow is falling down
Gets colder day by day
I miss you

I can hear people singing
It must be christmastime
I hear people singing
It must be christmastim

Salvation's coming cheap today

Artist- Aimee Mann
Song of the day- Calling on Mary

One of my favorite Christmas traditions was with my sister in California. We would start off the holiday season with Aimee Mann and her christmas show cuz there is nothing I enjoy more than a good hollywood hipster christmas. Sadly Mann stopped doing christmas concerts but her holiday album still gets me in the hipster holiday mood. So here's to you cool cats out there. Just remember know one is too cool for christmas, cuz if so Aimee Mann would be.

I heard the sidewalk Santa say:
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Salvation's coming cheap today
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas

I searched the skyline for a star
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
And baby I wondered where you are
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas

'Cause comfort's not possible when
You look past the joy to the end

Calling on Mary is voluntary
Unless you're alone like me
If there's a star above, then it can look like love
When they light up the Christmas tree

When I was young I couldn't see
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
All that my true love gave to me
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas

She offered sight to the blind
But I'm not the miracle kind

Calling on Mary is voluntary
Unless you're alone like me
If there's a star above, then it can look like love
When they light up the Christmas tree

And to all the lost souls down below:
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
What's one more drifter in the snow?
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!

If there's a star above, then it can look like love
When they light up the Christmas tree
If there's a star above, then it can look like love

I wrapped it up and sent it With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it

Song of the day- Last Christmas
Artist- Glee Cast

My most favorite modern Christmas anthem goes to Wham! That said I found the video too much George Michael wearing base and sexy ski trip vibe than christmasy so hears a very poppy rendition by Glee which makes me want to dramatically burst into song whilst shopping for christmas trees and also wear a beret cuz apparently they're back in style. So whether you are trying to sing back your boyfriend, sing away your girlfriend sing through christmas shopping or singing in super cute winter outfits, this one's for you!

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognise me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me

(Happy Christmas!) I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again

(CHORUS)

(Oooh. Oooh Baby)

A crowded room, friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you and your soul of ice
My God I thought you were someone to rely on
Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Oooh Oooh
Now I've found a real love you'll never fool me again
(CHORUS)

A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
(Gave you my heart)
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Next year
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
special
someone
someone
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
who'll give me something in return
I'll give it to someone
hold my heart and watch it burn
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
I've got you here to stay
I can love you for a day
I thought you were someone special
gave you my heart
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
last christmas I gave you my heart
you gave it away
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone

I wish I had a river so long I would teach my feet to fly

Artist- Joni Mitchell
Song of the day- River

Of course I love a good sad christmas song. If you have been reading this blog long enough you know my soft spot for all things musically depressed even on the holidays. Cuz let's face it the holidays aren't always joyful times for everyone and some even lonelier than usual. So if anyone out there feels a little melancholy in their step I understand, I've been there, sometimes I'll be there so long I should buy a time share. So maybe instead of steps we should put on a pair of skates instead. This one's for you.

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on

But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on

I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I made my baby cry

He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on

I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
I wish I had a river I could skate away on

Oh, I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby say goodbye

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river I could skate away on

So really I'd better scurry

Artist- Will Farrell & Zooey Deschanel
Song of the day- Baby It's Cold Outside

After a week in warm tropic weather I had almost forgotten about Christmas and what snow looks like. "Thankfully" two seconds after landing back in Chicago with only a sweatshirt on I was instantly reminded of both things. Today's song, though what I like to call the indecent proposal of chirstmas carols, seemed appropriate for my rude awakening back into the holiday season. 10 days till Christmas and if you're anything like me you've got a lot to do, or everything to do still, like watch Elf. So hopefully a lil Zooey, indecent advances and Will Farrel in tights will help us get back into the holiday gear!

I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away - Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been - Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice - I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what's your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry - Beautiful, please don't hurry
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink - No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight
To break the spell - I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried - What's the sense in hurting my pride?
I really can't stay - Baby don't hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

C'mon baby

I simply must go - Baby, it's cold outside
The answer is no - Ooh darling, it's cold outside
This welcome has been - I'm lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm - Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look delicious
My brother will be there at the door - Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious - Gosh your lips are delicious
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Never such a blizzard before

I've got to go home - Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your coat - It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand - I thrill when you touch my hand
But don't you see - How can you do this thing to me?
There's bound to be talk tomorrow - Think of my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay - Get over that hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night

Artist- Sufjan Stevens
Song of the day- O Come O Come Emmanuel

Before I leave the Internet world once again for another week, I wanted to post a fantastic old old classic to carry you through the week. There is something so simple and yet grand about these words and both homey and other worldly about the music Sufjan uses in his rendition of this old hymn that makes me feel safe and gives me goose bumps at the same time. It captures the magic of the holiday season and rejoicing when you are in most need of rescue. It's such a beautiful and inspiring image. As I plan to make my way to another country in the hope of serving others in need, my biggest hope is the rejoicing in their hearts that I get to play a part in. May you as well bring and dance in your own rejoicing this week!

O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny
From depths of Hell Thy people save
And give them victory o'er the grave
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai's height,
In ancient times did'st give the Law,
In cloud, and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Making spirits bright

Artist- Barbara Streisand
Song of the day- Jingle Bells

I missed last night of posting do to having too fantastic a time at my retro christmas extravaganza which was an explosion of holiday fun that I think can best be summed up by my favorite version of jingle bells. You can't go wrong with Babs and a rushing good time that seems to fly by. So catch those holiday moments of fun when you can and jingle all the way!

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

His heart full of love love love Love love love Love love was all around

Artist- Dave Matthews Band
song of the day- A Christmas song

I love that today's song is entitled "A Christmas Song" yet never says the word Christmas in it. It kinda reminds me of how often I'm not thinking about how the title of the holiday fits with this story that I've almost separated them in my mind completely unless I'm in church or a Christmas hymn comes on the radio. You can make all the political and religious arguments of how Christians stole a pagan holiday and you'd probably be right, but to me this song and revisiting this story not only reminds me of watching "the Greatest Story Ever Told" every year during Christmas in private school, but the specialness and intimate life changing story I'm missing out on when I overlook it, the greatest gift in my life. So whether you agree or disagree or celebrate in a different way, it's still a great story and a beautiful song that has become one of my most cherished during the holidays. I hope it blesses you today!

She was his girl; he was her boyfriend
She'd be his wife and make him her husband
A surprise on the way, any day, any day
One healthy little giggling dribbling baby boy
The wise men came, three made their way
To shower him with love
While he lay in the hay
Shower him with love love love
Love love love
Love love was all around

Not very much of his childhood was known
Kept his mother Mary worried
Always out on his own
He met another Mary who for a reasonable fee,
less than reputable was known to be.

His heart full of love love love
Love love love
Love love was all around

When Jesus Christ was nailed to his tree
Said "oh, Daddy-o, I can see how it all soon will be
I came to shed a little light on this darkening scene
Instead I fear I've spilled the blood of our children all around"

The blood of our children all around
The blood of our children's all around

So I'm told, so the story goes
The people he knew were
Less than golden hearted
Gamblers and Robbers
Drinkers and Jokers, all soul searchers
Like you and me
Like you and me

Rumors insisted he soon would be
For his deviations
Taken into custody
By the authorities less informed than he.
Drinkers and Jokers all soul searchers
Searching for love love love
Love love love
Love love was all around

Preparations were made
For his celebration day
He said "eat this bread and think of it as me
Drink this wine and dream it will be
The blood of our children all around
The blood of our children's all around
The blood of our children all around

Father up above, why in all this anger do you fill
Me up with love, love, love
Love love love
Love love was all around
Father up above, why in all this hatred do you fill
Me up with love, fill me love love love
Love love love
all you need is love
you can't buy me love
Love love love
Love love
And the blood of our children's all around

When the dog bites When the bee stings When I'm feeling sad

Artist- Pomplamoose
Song of the day- My favorite things

I'm always debating if this should truly be considered a christmas song. But since I've seen it on many a christmas compilation (and plus I enjoy it) I'm counting it as one as well. To me it always reminds me of christmas growing up since I was always required to watch it with my grandmother as it was one of her favorites. And though I had no idea why a singing family had to flee to some alive musical hills from people till far later in life, this movie was always one of my favs as well and this cover of a great song was just too hip to not share as this band is becoming part of my favorite things.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

[Repeat all verses]

May your days be merry and bright

Artist- Otis Redding
Song of the day- White Christmas

I never seem to get sick of classic christmas songs, well at least not till towards the very end of the holidays. And almost any cover makes me happy but certain ones are better than the others, like today's song, my sister's all time favorite christmas song. And as it is the first day of December and the start of some real snow this song makes everything a little bit snowier. So whether you are dreaming of snow, dreaming of hoping to not freeze your bum off or dreaming of being with those you love, whatever you may dream I hope they are merry and bright.

White Christmas - Otis Redding

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
