My heart cracked, really loved you bad

Artist of the day- Lykke Li
Song of the day- Gunshot

Earlier in the week came sad news for fans of today's artist as she canceled the rest of touring indefinitely, the allusive Li always hinted at only doing a trilogy of albums and some feared her soulful broken hearted music with a dance beat might be gone forever. Then came today's Coachella lineup featuring today's artist which has me relieved with many follow up questions. Either way in honor of the disappearance and reappearance of today's gem of an artist, clearly one of my favs, this one's for you, and the sinus infection I'm fighting that too is like a gunshot through my head and back. Also I may buy a read flashlight and re-enact this video when I start feeling better. Can I get this outfit at H&M or is it that just a tease?

I am longing for your poison
Like a cancer for its prey
Shot an arrow, in your harbor
Where you waited in the rain
I am sire, I am ivy
I am no one, I'm nobody
I am longing for your honey
I am longing for your love

And the shot goes through my head and back
Gun shot, I can't take it back

Lay me down in your ocean
Carry me and my burden
I was dreaming about your honey
I was hoping you'd save me

And the shot goes through my head and back
Gun shot, I can't take it back
My heart cracked, really loved you bad
Gun shot, I'll never get you back, never get you back

And I ache, while you're not here
I can feel you aching
Wide awake, why you're not here
I can feel you firing straight into my heart

Goes through my head and back
Gun shot, I can't take it back
My heart cracked, really loved you bad
Gun shot, I'll never get you back, never get you back,
never get you back, never get you back, never get you back

Come laugh away who you are and get down Who you are, who we are now you're foun

Artist- Lykke Li
Song of the day- Youth Knows no pain

So I'm not quite sure what artist I've played on my blog the most but I would make an educated guess as it being Lykke Li. But it must be today's song choice as I celebrate school ending by the only way i Know how: a Lykke Li concert. And well, as I finished my internship hours as a pediatric nurse and seen a lot of youth in pain, witnessed most of my classmates in pain trying to finish the program, and experienced general pains trying to become and adult with a job and a home...I realized youth is painful. But perhaps the best quality and for sure the reason why I love working with kids is how they manage to hold on to the innocence and playfulness of themselves in the face of adversity. Crying fits one minute, lego fights and dance marathons the next. Really it's the best coping mechanism I've seen. And maybe it's not that youth knows no pain, they are just better at dealing with it. So I'd like to take a note from my patients and get down at a concert in celebration of finishing one of the hardest times of my life and seeing / experiencing some tough stuff and some amazing people. Come on get down.

Come laugh away who you are and get down
Who you are, who we are now you're found
To the sun or the bears or the guns
We taking all our vows with your frown

Come on get down
Come on get down
Make a mess, make a bow
Come on get down
Come get down
Mighty youth, here and now
So come on honey cut yourself to pieces
Come on honey give yourself completely
And do it all though you can't believe it
Youth knows no pain
Youth knows no pain

Come together and join the parade
And get back walk on lost in the trade
With the plants and the shimmering beats
With the wind in my hair, you're free

Come on get down
Come get down
Make a mess, make a bow
Come on get down
Come get down

Mighty youth, here and now
So come on honey cut yourself to pieces
Come on honey give yourself completely
And do it all though you can't believe it
Youth knows no pain
Youth knows no pain

I said youth don't know
Youth knows no pain
I said youth don't know
Youth knows no pain

Mighty youth, here and now
So come on honey cut yourself to pieces
Come on honey give yourself completely
Come on honey cut yourself to pieces
Come on honey give yourself completely
And do it all though you can't believe it
Youth knows no pain
Youth knows no pain

'cause i'm looking for my friend now i got you, got you

Artist- Lykke Li
Song of the day- Tonight

Have you ever had a person look at you so intensely you had to look away because you just couldn't keep their gaze? And I don't mean in the creepy getting humped on the el train kind of way, but like when you're having a conversation with someone and they look at you in a way that feels like they know every single detail about you, you can't hide at all and you didn't even really say anything. That's what this whole video feels like to me that I have a hard time watching it. There's something about that look that also works in reverse. When someone is saying something to you, maybe something deep and revealing or maybe not even anything at all on the surface but the way they look at you, you know they are being completely vulnerable to you which somehow makes you feel totally vulnerable at the same time? It's compelling but uneasy and rare enough in life that you fear it and crave it at the same time. Those intense moments when people's walls come down for just a bit. Those are the greatest and most terrifying moments in my life is to be a part of that, usually at least ha. And music kind of lives in that feeling, it thrives in it. And even if I have a hard time actually watching this video, it's why I love it. And why I'm leaving it with you for a bit while I go on my musical holiday at lollapalooza. Cuz tomorrow night she'll be singing this face to face.

watch my back so i'll make sure
you're right behind me as before
yesterday the night before tomorrow

dry my eyes so you won't know
dry my eyes so i won't show
i know you're right behind me

and don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight

don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight

you walk the surface of this town
the high heels above the ground
and high horses that we know
keep us safe until the night

you know them all, i know it all
stay put and play along
'cause i'm looking for my friend
now i got you, got you

don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight

don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight

i dry my eye, dry my eye
falling deeper by the hour
dry my eye. .
dry my eye, dry my eye
dont let me fall deeper now
dry my eye

don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight
don't you let me go, let me go tonight

Rather die in your arms, than die lonesome Rather die hard, than die hollow

Lollapalooza Edition
Artist- Lykke Li
Song of the day- Love out of lust

Probably my favorite artist of the year, Lykke Li is often known for her innocent voice and dance beats, but I think my most favorite song off her new album is today's ballad. In fact after being obsessed with her music for the last 6 months I've come to realize she writes / performs some pretty fantastic, heartbreaking, emotional, beauty of a ballad. But alas ballads aren't really an outdoors music festival scene but I'm crossing my fingers for this song. It's about the battle of settling in order to not be alone, risking too much to find love, knowing it is the greatest thing life has to offer but maybe going about all the wrong ways to find it. it's tragic, it's relatable, it's Lykke Li.

Rather die in your arms, than die lonesome
Rather die hard, than die hollow
The higher that I climb
the deeper I fall down
I'm running out of time
So let's dance while we're waiting

We will live longer than I will
We will be better than I was
We can cross rivers with our will
we can do better than I can
so dance while you can
Dance cause you must
Love out of lust
Dance while you can

Rather live out a lie than live wondering
how the fire feels while burning
for life is like a flame
and the ashes for wasting
so honey don't be afraid
to dance while we're waiting
we will live longer than I will
we will be better than I was
we can cross rivers without wind
we can do better than i can
so dance while you can
dance cause you must
love out of lust
dance while you can

so tired of waiting
come baby
so tired of waiting
come baby

we will live longer than i will
we will be better than i was
we can cross rivers with our will
we can do better than i can
we will live longer than I will
we can cross rivers with our will
we can do better than i can
so dance while you can
dance cause you must
love out of lust
so dance while you can

Love out of lust
Love out of lust
Love out of lust..

Oh I beg you, can I follow Oh I ask you why not always

Artist- Lykki Li
Song of the day- Follow Rivers

Ok I've tried my hardest to keep my musical obsessions from clogging up my blog, but really what's the point in having your own musical blog if not to force your obsessions down people's throats. Which i think I do subconciously anyway because I've been singing this song so much recently, I don't even realize it, and then people start singing it back to me. But having to talk about babies so much for school, I instead just sing this chorus over and over cuz it has the word baby in it and decide it's close enough to studying. And also it's catchy, and makes me want to start a band where I wear black leggings all the time and play tin cans. I'm adding it to my summer to do list right after taking down anyone who tries to stand in front of me during this set at lollapalooza, watch out for my right hook hipsters.

Oh I beg you, can I follow
Oh I ask you why not always
Be the ocean where unravel
Be my only, be the water and I'm wading
You're my river running high, run deep run wild

[Chorus]
I I follow, I follow you deep sea baby
I follow you
I I follow, I follow you, dark boom honey
I follow you

He a message, I'm the runner
He's the rebel, I'm the daughter waiting for you
You're my river running high, run deep run wild

[Chorus]
I I follow, I follow you deep sea baby
I follow you
I I follow, I follow you, dark boom honey
I follow you

You're my river running high, run deep run wild
I, I follow, I follow you deep sea baby,
I follow you
I, I follow, I follow you, dark boom honey,
I follow you
I, I follow, I follow you deeps sea baby,
I follow you
I, I follow, I follow you, dark boom honey,
I follow you

[Repeat till end]
I, I follow, I follow you deeps sea baby,
I follow you
I, I follow, I follow you, dark boom honey,
I follow you

Having troubles telling how I feel But I can dance, dance and dance

Artist- Lykke Li
Song of the day- Dance, Dance, Dance

Two things I learned tonight. Lykke Li puts on an amazing show. And Lykke Li is as she puts it in this song shy, shy, shy but can dance, dance, dance. After seeing three concerts almost back to back in the last few days it's interesting what you can learn about a person, especially artists who actually puts their souls on display to perfect strangers for about two hours a night. It is what I love about live music and the idea of live performing and what terrifies me about it. As a shy / fairly private person myself I can understand the appeal and the need to connect with people in a way you can't in normal life. What I write in a song I could never actually admit to in regular conversation but sharing it with a crowd of people is both horror and like a therapeutic release. And in the past couple days I"ve seen musicians get a high from it, become used to it, and both shy away and reveal everything at the same time. Because when it comes down to it, there are some things you can't say, but some things you can only dance, or you know, play a kazoo to. So for all the things you shy, shy, shy away from, this is for you.

Having troubles telling how I feel
But I can dance, dance and dance
Couldn't possibly tell you how I mean
But I can dance, dance, dance
So when I trip on my feet
Look at the beat
The words are, written in the sand
When I'm shaking my hips
Look for the swing
The words are, written in the air
Dance
I was a dancer all along
Dance, dance, dance
Words can never make up for what you do
Easy conversations, there's no such thing
No I'm shy, shy, shy
My hips they lie 'cause in reality I'm shy, shy, shy
But when I trip on my feet
Look at the ground
The words are, written in the dust
When I'm shaking my hips
Look for the swing
The words are written in the air
Dance
I was a dancer all along
Dance, dance, dance
Words can never make up for what you do
Dance, dance, dance

If you give it a minute it's wrong If you give it a minute it's gone

Artist- Lykke Li
Song of the day- Breaking it up

I have been on vacation from school and with sporadic Internet and late nights which also meant a vaca from the song of the day blog. But I had to return early for a special occasion of my dear friend Mo's day of birth. To the person who seems to be as and sometimes even more excited about my blog than I am and who actually at times remembers and listens to most excellent bands I suggest such as today's. So Mo here is to you on the day you were born, someone who could sing better and express with more excitement about how glad I am that you are born. So I hope you break it up and get your dance on today!

If you're going abroad I can't help you
If you're crossing the street I might be there

If you give it a minute it's wrong
If you give it a minute it's gone
If we're just waiting a second too long
Darling I'll leave and you won't come along

So give me the reason to stay
Give me the reason to wait
You know I don't look to get caught
'Cause darling we're here but my true love is not

Breaking it up, before it's on
Breaking it up, it's already gone
Breaking it up, I didn't mean to fraud
Breaking it up

I might be there
If you're going abroad I can't help you
If you're crossing the street I might be there

And I call you baby I will and I do
Persuade you in though I know that we're through
I let you think that I'm yours when I'm not
Keep you here though I'm ready to drop the last line

Breaking it up, before it's on
Breaking it up, it's already gone
Breaking it up, I didn't mean to fraud
Breaking it up

I might be there
If you're going abroad I can't help you
If you're crossing the street I might be there

Breaking it up
Breaking it up
