'Cause i been caught in between all I wish for and all I need

Artist- R.E.M. & Coldplay
Song of the Day- In the sun

I got to thinking about REM the other night after hearing a kickass cover of one of their songs and was trying to remember this Joseph Arthur cover they did with Coldplay back in the day. And just now as I re listened to it, it seemed to fit exactly how I've been feeling. I've seen a lot of people struggling of late with little or big things and in the midst of feeling the struggle myself and feeling of transition and caught in between, when I run out of answers, when I don't know how to help someone or help myself, there's something comforting and helpful in the chorus of this song. When you don't know what to do when you've lost hope it's nice to know it's not actually disappeared but it's out there for the finding. It might not be your own way it might not make sense but in your heart, in the heart of everyone there's a love to get us through.

I picture you in the sun wondering what went wrong
And falling down on your knees asking for sympathy
And being caught in between all you wish for and all you seen
And trying to find anything you can feel that you can believe in

May God's love be with you
Always
May God's love be with you

I know i would apologize if i could see your eyes
'Cause when you showed me myself i became someone else
But i was caught in between all you wish for and all you need
I picture you fast asleep
A nightmare comes
You can't keep awake

May God's love be with you
Always
May God's love be with you

'Cause if i find
If i find my own way
How much will i find
If i find
If i find my own way
How much will i find
You

I don't know anymore
What it's for
I'm not even sure
If there is anyone who is in the sun
Will you help me to understand
'Cause i been caught in between all I wish for and all I need
Maybe you're not even sure what it's for
Any more than me

May God's love be with you
Always
May God's love be with you

May all your troubles soon be gone Oh, Christmas lights, keep shinin' on

Favorite: Holiday
Artist: Coldplay
Song of the day: Christmas lights

I don't really mean to always do what my sister tells me to but she tends to just have this power over me...and that power is usually her good taste. With only a few songs left in my blog I wasn't going to focus too much on christmas songs, but seeing as it is my fav holiday it is difficult to resist. Even more difficult when Coldplay writes such a great holiday song, it's exactly how I'm feeling, and my sister tells me to post it. But as I'm spending the holidays in the library trying not to stress about taking a test that determines my future and keeps being described as the "most important test of my life" the chirsmas spirit seems to be sucked right out of my soul and as I'm waiting for this impending snow to fall, it doesn't really feel like christmas at all. I actually keep forgetting it's christmas. But even if i'm fortified in my own humbug reality, it's hard to escape the magic of the holiday just around the corner. Just walking into a store full of christmas music, the streets lined with decorations, a church merrily celebrating advent, and the lights at night. When the lights turn on tends to ignite the christmas spirit in me and has always been my favorite activity (minus eating mexican food for christmas eve) during the holidays. Candle light service and looking at christmas lights on all the houses carries that unspeakable magic and joy from childhood. May you find the holiday joy in your own christmas lights, or coldplays.

Christmas night, another fight
Tears, we cried a flood
Got all kinds of poison in
Of poison in my blood

I took my feet to Oxford Street
Trying to right a wrong
Just walk away, those windows say
But I can't believe she's gone

When you're still waiting for the snow to fall
Doesn't really feel like Christmas at all

Up above, candles on air flicker
Oh, they flicker and they float
And I'm up here holdin' on
To all those chandeliers of hope

Like some drunken Elvis singin'
I go singin' out of tune
Sayin' how I always loved you, darlin'
And I always will

Oh, when you're still waiting for the snow to fall
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/c/coldplay-lyrics/christmas-lights-lyrics.html ]
It doesn't really feel like Christmas at all
Still waiting for the snow to fall
It doesn't really feel like Christmas at all

Those Christmas lights light up the street
Down where the sea and city meet
May all your troubles soon be gone
Oh, Christmas lights, keep shinin' on

Those Christmas lights light up the street
Maybe they'll bring her back to me
And then all my troubles will be gone
Oh, Christmas lights, keep shinin' on

Oh, Christmas lights, light up the street
Light up the fireworks in me
May all your troubles soon be gone
Those Christmas lights keep shinin' on

I turn the music up I'm on a roll this time And heaven is in sight

Artist- Coldplay
Song of the day- Every Teardrop is a Waterfall

Now I've come to realize you either can't stand coldplay or you love them with all your heart. And though I shall always fall under the love them with all my heart category, I was not a fan of this song when I first heard it. I pretty much couldn't get through it when I heard it on the radio, thought Coldplay had lost their mind and was wondering where my ballad soaked with emotion was that both empowers me to run on the treadmill and cry at the same time. Yet, I can tell you the instant I finally "got" this song and was forever reminded why I love Coldplay with all my heart. Better yet, I can show you the instant it happened this summer at Lollapalooza. Now I won't deny that the energy from 1,000's of fans, fancy lasers and fireworks didn't help, but maybe like I came to realize this summer, Coldplay too just needed to dance some things out. And as I am in the midst of wanting to ball up in the corner and cry every other minute, I might just take a tip from Coldplay instead. So if you happen to be in the library in Chicago today, you might pass a closed study room door where I've turned my music up, I've got my records on, I've shut the world outside...and I've decide to dance around about teardrops instead of have them. If you feel the same, come find me in the library, this one's for you.

I turn the music up,
Got my records on
I shut the world outside until the lights come on
Maybe the streets alight,
Maybe the trees are gone
I feel my heart start beating to my favorite song

And all the kids they dance
All the kids all night
Until Monday morning feels another life
I turn the music up
I'm on a roll this time
And heaven is in sight

I turn the music up,
I got my records on
From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song
Don't want to see another generation drop
I'd rather be a comma, than a full stop

Maybe I'm in the black
Maybe I'm on my knees
Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes
But my heart is beating and my pulses start
Cathedrals in my heart

As we saw, oh this light
I swear you emerge blinking into
To tell me it's alright
As we soar walls
Every siren is a symphony
And every tears a waterfall

Is a waterfall
Oh
Is a waterfall
Ooh-oh-oh
Is a waterfall
Every teardrop
Is a waterfall
Ooh-oh-oh

So you can hurt, hurt me bad
But still I'll raise the flag

It was a wa-wa-wa-wa-waterfall
A wa-wa-wa-wa-waterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall(5x)

Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be this hard Oh, take me back to the start

Lollapalooza Edition
Artist- Coldplay
Song of the day- The Scientist

What can I say about my love for Coldplay? Other than, it is vast. They create music well, they dress well, they speak Britishly well, they perform well, but at their best I think they write songs well. Today's song is one of my all time favs in any category. I find they can touch on emotion without going overboard and be just catchy enough without being annoying. But today's song also is a fav because I've come to realize I'm a big fan of starting things and maybe not as great in the long hall at finishing things. I can start a book well then never finish it, make sure I ace tests at the beginning so I can peter out as the class continues, make fantastic first impressions then can become more awkward and weird the more you know me, start at a new place then quickly have the itch to move, write a mean first verse and a sucky second one, write a really awesome start of a blog then realize it has turned into a long run on sentence all about me and my quirky habits...I digress. Often I wish I can go back to the start of things when it's fresh and interesting cuz everything gets harder the longer you stick it out, school, relationships, Dostoevsky novels, I think that's why the bible always talks about how what matters is how you finish the race of life. Not how you start it, not how you had that one good stride in the middle, but that you made it to the end. So here's to loving the start and making it to the end.

And a short footnote one of my most favorite lines of any song is "you don't know how lovely you are" it's so simple yet endearing and says so much at the same time. I'm pretty sure if anyone would walk up and say it to me I might marry them on the spot. However don't go around revealing this secret of mine to creepy men that they might use it for evil, it's like love kryptonite.

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh, lets go back to the start

Running in circles
Coming up tails
Heads on a science apart.

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh, take me back to the start.

I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart

Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh, and I rush to the start

Running in circles
Chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I'm going back to the start

Oh, all that I know, There's nothing here to run from

Artist- Coldplay
Song of the day- Don't panic

I think it's important to set goals for the day and I think the title of this song is nice goal to have nearing the end of a quarter. So I think more than getting all my work done, going to the gym or remembering the list of things I promised to do today, I'll work on this first and see what happens. How? Might you ask can this be done? Well I'm gonna start by singing this song under my breath all day, so if you happen to hear me mumbling a tune under my breath or suddenly pulling out a harmonica you'll know why. If you need a reason not to panic, this one's for you!

Oh, we're sinking like stones,

All that we fought for,

All those places we've gone,

All of us are done for.

We live in a beautiful world,

Yeah we do, yeah we do,

We live in a beautiful world,

Oh, we're sinking like stones,

All that we fought for,

All those places we've gone,

All of us are done for.

We live in a beautiful world,

Yeah we do, yeah we do,

We live in a beautiful world.

Oh, all that I know,

There's nothing here to run from,

And there, everybody here's got somebody to lean on.

People moving all the time Inside a perfectly straight line Don't you wanna curve away? When it's such a perfect day

Artist- Coldplay
Song of the day- Strawberry Swing

You ever hear a song, not think too much about it, then one day you realize it's a fantastic song, how could you have overlooked it for so long? Yeah that's what happened to me today when I found this amazing video that made me just fall in love with this song. I love superheroes, adventures, crazy artistic visions and really think chalk boards don't get near enough credit as they should. I say boo to dry erase boards and their ability not to squeak! Where's the fun in them? So if you're in an andventurous mood and don't have a chalk board or superhero outfit of your own, this journey is for you!

They were sitting
They were sitting on the strawberry swing
Every moment was so precious

They were sitting
They were talking under strawberry swing
Everybody was for fighting
Wouldn't wanna waste a thing

Cold, cold water bring me round
Now my feet won't touch the ground
Cold, cold water what ya say?
When it's such…
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

I remember
We were walking up to strawberry swing
I can't wait until the morning
Wouldn't wanna change a thing

People moving all the time
Inside a perfectly straight line
Don't you wanna curve away?
When it's such…
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

Now the sky could be blue
I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time

Could be blue
I don’t mind
Without you it’s a waste of time

Could be blue,
Could be grey
Without you I’m just miles away

Could be blue
I don’t mind
Without you it’s a waste of time

Oh, what good is it to live with nothing left to give Forget but not forgive, not loving all you see

Artist- Coldplay
Song of the day- Swallowed in the Sea

I knew this guy a few years ago, the kind of guy you don't believe really exists till you meet him. And not just in the "good man is hard to find" kind of way but I remember being actually surprised by him. It was his passion for life and for God and for people that was so shocking. Unless you know him or his story it's hard to describe. To him each day, each moment was this amazing adventure that God was leading him on. Every person to cross his path he saw as a gift and would immediately cherish them, dive into their lives, genuinely curious about who they were. He lead a group of us through India and I would often see him on a crowded Kolkata bus laughing and talking with random strangers. He would come back with new friends all the time and so nonchalantly bring up God to anyone. I've toured mosques in Bangladesh with him as he sat with the most devout Muslim's joking and taking pictures, I've been detained at border crosses waiting for him for hours where I was certain we were about to be kicked out of a country or arrested only to see him leaving shaking hands and smiling with officials. He tours the world meeting people on his way just going on adventures with God and it's a kind of faith that inspires and scares me and leaves me with a desire to do the same. I remember trips on day long train rides he would borrow my ipod and tell me how he constantly listened to this one song and how beautiful it was in the way it painted love. And I have to say to this day I still don't fully understand this song, but can't stop thinking about it. I think it was the smile in his face I remember, it was the same smile he would get when talking about his future wife. He hadn't met her yet, but knew God had something amazing in store for Him like He always does. And I haven't really talked to my friend Benji in ages but I saw his wedding picture today after he married his wife just yesterday. And it was that same smile. That same excitement for life and love and God. So here's to my inspiring friend and everyone on making life an adventure I so often take for granted. Make it an exciting one today.

You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me
And that's what made me see where I was going wrong
You put me on a shelf and kept me for yourself
I can only blame myself, you can only blame me

And I could write a song a hundred miles long
Well that's where I belong and you belong with me
And I could write it down or spread it all around
Get lost and then get found or swallowed in the sea

You put me on a line and hung me out to dry
Darling, that's when I decide to go see you
You cut me down to size and opened up my eyes
Made me realize what I could not see

And I could write a book, the one they'll say that shook the world
And then it took, it took it back from me
And I could write it down or spread it all around
Get lost and then get found and you'll come back to me
Not swallowed in the sea

And I could write a song a hundred miles long
Well, that's where I belong and you belong with me
The streets you're walking on, a thousand houses long
Well, that's where I belong and you belong with me
Oh, what good is it to live with nothing left to give
Forget but not forgive, not loving all you see
Oh, the streets you're walking on a thousand houses long
Well, that's where I belong and you belong with me
Not swallowed in the sea

You belong with me, not swallowed in the sea
Yeah, you belong with me
