Gonna open my heart Right at the scars Listen up

Artist- Kings of Leon
Song of the day- Wait for me

Though, as my friend Travis likes to say, "I love my divas", and would usually rather a dance break over a guitar solo any day, I have a soft spot for a few (or many) real rock bands. Kings of Leon often topping the list. Though they may be known for their drama often over their music, they know what guitar riffs shake my musical loins...that sounded gross but probably accurate. After watching their overly revealing documentary tonight "Talihina Sky" (fascinating), their story of religion, poverty, heartbreak, ego, drugs and guilt come alive in their music. Over the polished tones, something else lives in there. The human story of true soul searching, of falling, and trying, of loving the dark and struggling to get out from under it, always play a part in their albums. Today's song is the epitome of this from their latest record and I have been listening to it at least once a day. Obsessed. It's our constant striving to be better and our inability of perfection that may drive us mad or make beautiful music.

the story

the song

Gonna open my heart
Right at the scars
Listen up
Gonna do what I'm told
Go where I'm told
And listen up
Take a shot in the rain
Walk for the pain
And listen up

I tried all the way...
Wait for me, wait for me
It's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me

Gonna soften the blow
Soften the blow
And give it up
I saw the surprise
The look in your eyes
I gave it up
Gonna be who I am
Be who I am
And give it up

I tried all the way...
Wait for me, wait for me
It's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Ah, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Ah, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me

It's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Ah, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me
Oh, it's all better now, it's all better now
Wait for me, wait for me

All the black inside me Is slowly seeping from the bone

Artist- Kings of Leon
Song of the day- Pyro

It has been quite a while since a video has given me goosebumps but as I was watching today's song at the gym I almost had to stop running because there was something about this song and this story that shook me to the core. And it's hard to explain why because on the surface it's just some skeezy bar where the band plays. But it's like in a place, a dark undercurrent of life we never talk about but know exists. That somewhere right now these people, the homeless, the wasted, the people whose harsh life you can see on their face, the abusers, the child molesters, the "whores", the unwanted, the forgotten, there always there in the background but here you have to look right at them so intricate and slowly you see the darkness in them and the humanity. But it wasn't till the end of the video, where I understood the point, because I wasn't expecting it. It's the other part of life we choose not to think about. The end of it. Whatever you believe it ends somehow. And growing up in a christian private school I"ve been fascinated, horrified, and mostly chose to ignore how it will all end. The rapture, the apocalypse, the end of our life or every life the whatever you wanna call it won't happen when we expect it but maybe we'll just be sitting at home or in a bar or getting our ass kicked. On the surface it may not be a big deal, but the human spirit, the what comes next, that shakes you to the core.

Single book of matches,
Gonna burn what's standing in the way.
Roaring down the mountain,
Now they're calling on the fire brigade.
Bury all the pictures,
and tell the kids that I'm okay.
If'n I'm forgotten,
You'll remember me for today.

I won't ever be your cornerstone.
I...

All the black inside me
Is slowly seeping from the bone.
Everything I cherish
Is slowly dying, or it's gone.
Little shaken babies
And drunkards seem to all agree,
Once the show gets started,
It's bound to be a sight to see.

I won't ever be your cornerstone.
I don't wanna be here holding on.
I won't ever be your cornerstone.
I...

Watch her roll,
Can you feel it?
Watch her roll,
Can you feel it?

Watch her roll,
Can you feel it?
Watch her roll,
Can you feel it?

I won't ever be your cornerstone.
I don't wanna be here holding on.
I won't ever be your cornerstone.
I...

hold on not my fairy tale you're trying to start

Artist- Kings of Leon
Song of the day- King of the Rodeo

I fell in love with Kings of Leon one hot summer day at Lollapalooza several years back when I was searching for a bathroom (which is about 65% of my life) and heard Caleb Followill's voice over a hill. And let me tell you I hold my bladder for very little, but there is something more to this obvious rock band, besides the dreaminess. And lately I've been playing this older tune of theirs on repeat. I don't know if I find it extra charming whilst in Texas or the riff is just too good. And the video makes me miss my southern childhood and square dancing, though I do not miss Followill's long locks and find air bull riding to be quite disturbing. And though I am quite the opposite of a lot of Texans, I am secretly sad I was never a cowgirl king of the rodeo.

He's so purity, a shaven and a mourning,
and standing on a Pigeon toe, in his dissarray

Straight in the picture pose,
he's coming around to meet you

And screaming like a battle cry, its more if i stay

Me and your cold, Driving in the snow,
let the good times roll, let the good times roll
Cowgirl king of the rodeo, let the good times roll,
let the good times roll

How dare you some to me like withnail for a favor,
hold on not my fairy tale you're trying to start

Take off your overcoat, you're staying for the weekend,
and swaying like a smokey grey, a drink in the park

Good time to roll on.
