Song of the day- Warning Sign
Sorry for the absence of music knowledge, I have been busy with my love affair with Elvis...or at least hunting down his ghost at Graceland, but that's a story for another blog. Today's Lolla band is one of my fav concerts of last year. Boy harmony and heavy drum beats is just about the best thing and make for some good indie crowd dancing, which I guess is more nodding in place than usual. There is something soothing about there music but energetic at the same time. And today's cover of the Talking Heads tune is almost like a brand new song pulling I think the best of the Talking Heads and making it fit perfectly with their own sound. If you aren't a Local Native fan yet, I suggest visiting!
Warning sign
Warning sign
I hear it, but I pay no mind
Hear my voice
Hear my voice
It's saying something
It's not very nice
Pay attention
Pay attention
I'm talking to you
And I hope you're concentrating
I've got money now
I've got money now
C'mon baby
C'mon baby
Warning sign of things to come
Happened before, it'll happen again
Hear my voice
Move my hair
Move it around a lot
I don't care what I remember
Warning sign
Warning sign
Look at my hair
I like the design
It's the truth
It's the truth
Your glassy eyes
And your open mouth
Take it easy, baby
Take it easy
It's a natural thing
So relax
I've got money now
I've got money now
C'mon baby
C'mon baby
Warning sign of things to come
Love is here, but I guess it's gone now
Warning sign of things to come
Love is here, but I guess it's gone now
Hear my voice
Move my hair
Move it around a lot
I don't care what I remember

you could let it down jump into the river baby easy as it sounds it's never quite as easily done

Song of the day- Who Knows, Who Cares
I had to say goodbye to my dear roommate Jen tonight who has introduced me to so many lovely things like what homemade cookies from scratch taste like, Jersey Shore, true lyrics to Enrique Iglesias songs, gogo dancing in andersonville, car dance parties, hiding in the dark as we called cops on our loud neighbors, mash potato pizza, naps in between bars, and fantabulous music like today's artists. This song seemed appropriate to send her off right on her new adventure. So here's to roommates, new adventures, and the awesome people you meet along the way.
i've been going down
down into the river baby
listen to the sound
it's something only god knows
you figure it out, i can't stay
water's in the clouds
is my life about to change?
who knows, who cares
so we took a van down to colorado
where we ran into the dead
i took you by the hand
know that even with your doubts, it's ok
take into account that it's not about to change
who knows, who cares
you could let it down
jump into the river baby
easy as it sounds
it's never quite as easily done
the current has us now, it's ok
take into account that it's all about to change
who knows, who cares
no one's been there
but i don't care
i know all have been there
i don't care
i know

i've got control, i shift my shape if flesh and bone do not contain the mirrors don't reflect my face
Artist- Local Natives
Song of the day- Shape Shifter
I finally got to see this most excellent / new fav band of mine last night and I never use the word "religious experience" unless I'm well talking about religion, but as I was looking down at the sold out crowd of hipsters from the balcony I found that to them that's exactly what this was. Perhaps it's my over theorised mind, the spirituality article I currently have to analyse, this constant facing of loss and death that I keep running into recently, trying to dissect my world view and others around me, or my desperation to understand mental illness for a grade, but I feel as though the melting pot of the human soul and spirituality seem to be boiling over into everything I do. And I gotta say, its tough, strange and I kinda like it. I've been hearing the word "holistic" since nursing school started and seeing people as not just an illness but how every single part of their lives, family, job, thoughts, culture, beliefs, etc effects what's going on in their body just as much as the biological stuff. It's a totally simple concept but even if you just take the complexity of the human mind, the human soul, there is a never ending possibility of what is truly going on in a person. I've seen people unable to move from depression, unable to stop laughing from mania, seen one crisis completely change who a person is, and people overcome some of the greatest losses, I've walked along side people never knowing the constant heart ache they are going through, and held people as they fell to the floor crying. What can the human soul bare? How do we really cope? Through our god, on the shoulder of a friend, all alone, inner strength, the will in our mind, the ability to adapt? Listening to today's song made me think about all this heavy stuff, but in a more enjoyable totally hip way. The human soul is a beautiful, dangerous, amazing thing. I can't seem to stop being in awe of it and want to protect it all at the same time.
my king, i'm humbled before you, i bow
moods like you're pulled by the moonlight, somehow
how is the language we're speaking the same?
shape shifter have you discovered a change?
why does the soul hallucinate?
i've got control, i shift my shape
your eyes, they swell like a riot, deranged
tomorrow you're laughing like a child again
why does the soul hallucinate?
i've got control, i shift my shape
if flesh and bone do not contain
the mirrors don't reflect my face
psycho, you killer, you cancer, my friend
why don't you give me an answer for when
when you'll let it go

I love it all so much I call I want you back
Artist- Local Natives
Song of the day- Airplanes
Today I bought tickets for this concert and am oh so excited. I find so many things about their sound interesting and have had a soft spot for drum taps since my junior high snare drum days, and for some reason boy harmonies make me extra giddy. But as I listen to today's song over and over, it also makes me miss my grandma a lot. The video reminds me of cleaning out their house after she passed (minus the weird picture vomit at the end), and so many of the lyrics make me remember how amazing her life was and how amazing she was to me. She was the first person to think my weirdness was something special and I don't think I knew the word "creative" till she told me. She encouraged everything I tried even when I did it badly. She had so much to do with my "artsy" side and indirectly down the line led me to nursing. Every time I sit with a patient I can't help but think of how I wish I sat with her in her hospital room more, how a part of me is still trying to make up for my fears and mistakes as a teenager. So here's to those we've lost, we want, and long to see again.
The desk where you sit inside of a
frame made of wood
I keep those chopsticks you had from when
you taught abroad in Japan
I love it all so much
I call
I want you back
I did not know you as well
as my father knew you
every question you took the
time to sit and look it up in the
encyclopedia
I love it all so much
I call I want you back
It sounds like we
would of had a great deal to say
to each other
I bet when I leave
my body for the sky the wait will
be worth it
