With a head held high and a sharp tongue I could fool almost anyone

Artist- First Aid Kit
Song of the day- Master Pretender

I've always been quite a fan of these Swedish sisters' and full of jealousy and anger that my sister and I did not spend our entire childhood learning earthy harps and Gram Parson covers so we could wear folksy sheek attire and harmonize like a couple of angels. Alas that ship has sailed, but First Aid Kit seemed to have surpassed not just sounding like the folk music they love, but truly coming into a music melody all their own on this third album. Though I will probably gab more about this eclectic sound in the near future, I enjoyed today's stripped down song version off the "stay gold" album. It not only has that self deprecating storytelling I can't get enough of, it's also reflective of where one has been, how they have changed and how they haven't really changed at all. The constant oxymoron that is growing and staying who you are is often confusing, but much more bearable under soft lamp lit lights and a bit of sisterly wisdom.

Never thought that I was weak
Always thought I could get hurt pretty bad
Still get up on my own two feet

I always believed that I was free
That I had some sense of integrity
That would rise above whatever tried to change me

But honey, now I won't wait
For something to bring me round and smile
'Cause that only sticks for a while
Then I'm back again

Oh, I'm a master pretender

I always knew that I was young
But with a head held high and a sharp tongue
I could fool almost anyone

I never expected to be struck
By the fatal hands of fortune or by sheer bad luck

Now we won't change
And memories just rearrange
And fall into place
So I'm back again

Oh, I'm a master pretender

All the streets of New York City
Sure look pretty from way up here
And I was headed home, just felt more alone
The further I'd go

I always thought that you'd be here
But shit gets fucked up and people just disappear

So honey, now, don't be mad
Time has told me it can't be that bad
And if it is, well, I'll be goddamn
But I'll stick around

I'll be your master defender
Yeah, I'll stick around
I'll be your master defender

Please disregard my endless hope It just paved the way for the end of our road

Artist- Sondre Lerche
Song of the day- Legends

So the other night I was watching a movie and this quote stuck with me. "What is greater than a hero?...a Legend"...and sure the movie was Robo Cop and was more evilly implying why they should murder a man faced robot, but the idea of what a legend might mean stuck with me. My hero complex had to know. Cuz there's a reason there's the phrase every day heroes and only certain things are legendary...unless you are Barney Stinson. There's something more about a legend when heroes can be unsung. So today's song seemed to capture my current revelation in longing for the stuff of legends and only left to to dance out ones frustration. And there's no better adorable Swede to dance with than Mr. Lerche.

Please disregard my naked face
I just realized it takes two to lay
Can we dish it out in daylight
Can we stare ourselves down
Can we manouver honesty when it comes swinging back around
Oh o-oh
Now we'll never know what legends we could be
Just me and you and you and me
Oh o-oh, now we'll never know what legends we were ment to be
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Please disregard my endless hope
It just paved the way for the end of our road
I sometimes called you, bluff in secret,
You sometimes hassled with my nerves
Can you imagine anybody else so close to you, it hurts
Oh oh-o-oh
Now we'll never know what legends we could be just me and you and you and me,
Oh oh-o-oh
Now we'll never know what legends we were ment to be
Ooh oh oh
Please disregard
As I have done
Our sivilized boats
Is not fooling them
Oh o-oh oh
Now we'll never know what legends we could be, just me and you and you and me
Oh o-oh oh
Now we'll never know what legends we could be, just dumb as you and dumb as me
Oh oh o-oh
Now we'll never know what legends we could be, oh oh-o oh oh
Oh oh o-oh
Now we'll never know what legends we were ment to be
Oh oh o-oh
The legends we set out to be
Oh oh oh oh o-oh

I want your high love and emotion endlessly

Artist- Drake
Song of the day- Hold on, We're Going home

So I'll admit I'm probably the 1% of main stream population that couldn't get over Drake and his Degrassi Canada TV past. I have difficulty taking the rapper seriously as I tend to just picture Jimmy Brooks in a wheelchair trying to start a band with his high school sweetheart...but goodness do I love today's song. It's moody, subtle, Michael Jackson-esque slow jam was often my highway driving celebratory anthem as I left night shift after midnight.

Today rekindled my love as my shuffle found the song just as I was taking off back home, gripping my airplane seat, crazily chewing gum, hoping my sinus infected ears would not burst. Sure it was dramatic but I was on a lot of meds and also, it is the Degrassi way. So for all of you holding on till you go home, this one's for you.

I got my eyes on you
You're everything that I see
I want your high love and emotion endlessly
I can't get over you
You left your mark on me
I want your high love and emotion endlessly

Cause you're a good girl and you know it
You act so different around me
Cause you're a good girl and you know it
I know exactly who you could be
Just hold on we're going home
Just hold on we're going home
It's hard to do these things alone
Just hold on we're going home (home)

I got my eyes on you
You're everything that I see
I want your high love and emotion endlessly
I can't get over you
You left your mark on me
I want your high love and emotion endlessly

Cause you're a good girl and you know it (oh yeah)
You act so different around me
Cause you're a good girl and you know it
I know exactly who you could be

So just hold on we're going home (going home)
Just hold on we're going home (going home)
It's hard to do these things alone (things alone)
Just hold on we're going home (going home, going home)

You're the girl
You're the one
Gave you everything I love
I think there's something, baby
I think there's something, baby

You're the girl
You're the one
Gave you everything I love
I think there's something, baby
I think there's something, baby

Cause you're a good girl and you know it
You act so different around me
Cause you're a good girl and you know it
I know exactly who you could be

Oh just hold on we're going home (going home)
Just hold on we're going home (going home)
It's hard to do these things alone (things alone)
Just hold on we're going home (going home, going home)
Hold on

All my life Been shaking Wanting something

Artist- Ryan Adams
Song of the day- Gimme Something good

Alas I have a confession, I have always known of Ryan Adams genius and gathered the musical pebbles from is prolific tree as I was exposed to it. But his library is so vast and has always been overwhelming to try conquer though I know I'd benefit from it...similarly to the time I tried to watch the entire Battlestar Galactica series and made it only to season 3...the amount of greatness was just too much to behold.

But I've eaten up his new album in my surprising rocker boy stage I'm going through currently. Sure this has a lot to do with how he excellently produced Jenny Lewis' new album and peeked my musical interest once again. And also I'm pretty sure we have the same hair cut right now.

But I've been spending my last days visiting my parents in bed hoping my sinuses don't explode, I keep singing today's song in my medicated congested haze begging for some relief so I can have a good time with my family instead of continually apologizing and canceling their plans to spoil me (cuz yeah that's what my parents due). So if you're hoping and singing a similar anthem, this ones for you...and if you're not just sing it on my behalf cuz I"m losing my voice.

also Elvira is in the video, so halloweenie!

I can't talk
My mind is so blank
So going for a walk
I've got nothing left to say

I can't see
The darkness on the rise
I'll be waiting here
Until the under tide

All my life
Been shaking
Wanting something
Holding everything I have like it was broken
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good

I was playing dead
Doesn't make a sound
Holding my breath
Going underground

So I can't talk
I got nothing to say
It's like there's no tomorrow
Barely yesterday

All my life
Been shaking
Wanting something
Holding everything I have like it was broken
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Oh no

All my life
Been shaking
Wanting something
Holding everybody back
Round and round
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Gimme something good
Oh no

I dream in all your clouds of glory, it's true

Artist- Jessie Ware
Song of the day- Tough Love

Since it's Friday I'm going to give you something extra special to tide you over the weekend. You're welcome in advance if you already haven't been introduced to the gem that is Jessie Ware. What I am already confident will be my new favorite album before even being released, today's title of said album blew me away at first listen and I still can't get enough of it or pretty much any new song she releases. It's like the electronic second coming of Sade that makes one long for heartbreak so you can lip sync with true soulful emotion, cuz lord knows I can't hit those falsettos.  So if you you're in the middle of tough love or longing for it, this gem is for you.

It's already that time that you hope my mind is true
And I've been thinking of what to say or not to do
So you wanna be a man about it, do you?
And have you figured out all you wanted, have you?

[Pre-Chorus:]
When your heart becomes a million different pieces
That's when you won't be able to recognize this feeling

[Chorus 1:]
That's called tough love
That's called tough love
That's called tough love
That's called tough love

In the middle of the night all I think about is you
I dream in all your clouds of glory, it's true
So you wanna be a man about it, do you have to?
And have you figured out all you wanted, have you?

[Pre-Chorus]

[Chorus 2:]
That's called tough love (tough love)
That's called tough love (tough love)
That's called tough love (tough love)
That's called tough love (tough love)

You have me crying out, crying out for more
You have me crying out, crying out for more
You have me crying out, crying out for more
You have me crying out, crying out for more

[Chorus 2]

Why did they have to go and do us like that Why did they have to go and run from a dream far away

Artist- Bleachers
Song of the day- Wild Heart

I'll admit I knew who Bleachers was by famous girlfriends and Autumn de Wilde photo shoots before ever hearing their music. Yet none of this should overshadow the excellent 80s synth throw back that is their debut album. Though I can't escape their first single on almost every new show and movie trailer commercial, I've come to appreciate today's song because it has one of my favorite qualities which is, dancy synth anthem. There's a reason they keep being used in a finale of an episodes, it has that empowering beat that makes you want to break into a run or suddenly declare your true feelings or do something brave and ridiculous. And finding a way to capture that in a song is true heroism. So to all those going after that wild heart, this one's for you.

They closed the parkway late last night
And as I sat with the echoes of lies that I told
I felt young never change my crooked heart
So put your shotgun back in the glove
I'm only waiting another year for the dream far away
To come home to be brave

Well everything has changed
and now it's only you that matters
I will find anyway to your wild heart

They boarded up the windows and the doors to my house
No one will ever read the letters of the lies that I told
From the years I was changed my crooked hearts
Why did they have to go and do us like that
Why did they have to go and run from a dream far away
We'll be there was that grave?

To think everything must die for anyone to matter
Got to find anyway to your wild heart
I will find anyway to your wild heart

I will find anyway
Now everything has changed and I can't tell what matters
I will find anyway to your wild heart

Your wild heart [x8]

She'll turn her music on you You won't have to think twice

Artist- Kim Carnes
Song of the day- Bette Davis Eyes

Before I knew who Bette Davis was, I knew this song. And singing along as a 6 year old I knew this lady with eyes had all the characteristics of a cool ass woman. When I finally saw "All about Eve"(Stop what you are doing now and watch it), I realized this song had not lied to me at all, Bette Davis was in fact all of those things and a cool ass woman. Watching old Hitchcock classics with my dad I realized other beauties of her day did indeed have style and grace and reasons for being classic beauties and eventual princesses, but totally unrelatable to me and my not so classic beauty or royal future on my horizon. But wit I could grasp, wit seemed appealing, wit seemed empowering, wit I could work with. So to all those with Bette Davis Eyes, this one's for you.

"To fulfill a dream, to be allowed to sweat over lonely labor, to be given a chance to create, is the meat and potatoes of life. The money is the gravy." - Bette Davis
...also this video is ridiculous, enjoy!

Her hair is Harlowe gold
Her lips sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll turn her music on you
You won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow
She got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo stand off sighs
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll let you take her home
It whets her appetite
She'll lay you on her throne
She got Bette Davis eyes
She'll take a tumble on you
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll expose you, when she snows you
Off your feet with the crumbs she throws you
She's ferocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please ya
She's precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll tease you
She'll unease you
Just to please ya
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll expose you, when she snows you
She knows ya
She's got Bette Davis eyes
