there goes my hero he's ordinary

Lollapalooza Edition:
Artist- Foo Fighters
Song of the day- My Hero

On a day celebrating independence and the fight for it, it seems fitting to play this song. And after watching a day of "Rocky" marathons, I've had much time to contemplate just what makes up a hero. And though Foo Fighters are fantastic at rocking out, it wasn't till being at this concert in Hollywood a few years ago I realized what great songwriters they were. My favorite line from the song is I think what makes heroes in our lives so great, being ordinary. It's when the extraordinary can somehow happen from human hands, when they push themselves when they think they can't, when they triumph when they have no reason to, but what makes them "my hero" is when they risk their ordinary lives to do the extraordinary for me. The sacrifice for another, that is my kind of hero. Maybe it's not always laying down lives, but laying down time, laying down your heart, wisdom, love, humor, strength for another. For all my heroes and your heroes out there. This one's for you.

too alarming now to talk about
take your pictures down
and shake it out
truth or consequence, say it aloud
use that evidence race it around

there goes my hero
watch him as he goes
there goes my hero
he's ordinary

don't the best of them bleed it out
while the rest of them peter out
truth or consequence, say it aloud
use that evidence race it around

kudos my hero
leaving all the best
you know my hero
the one that's on
