And the lambs are on the run Searching for meaning

Artist- Adam Levine
Song of the day- Lost Stars

Now I have to say I've never really been a fan of Mr. Levine, but have never shied away from the fact that this kid got pipes. But today's song has little to do with the artist and more to do with the art it came from. Now I just might have been the only person to see the movie "Begin Again" this summer,  is quite a shame. The follow up ode to loving music in film "Once", might not have all the talent and passion of the first film, but director John Carney still has a gift for capturing the power music has on our lives and how it shapes and changes us. I am in love with music and few things have ever really been able to capture that true love like Carney is able to.

Today's song also sought the help of former New Radicals musician Gregg Alexander who left fame at the height of his "You get what you give" stardom because he loved the art of music and not the commercialism. But Alexander was so touched by the story of "Begin Again" he wrote today's song for the movie. It can stand alone as a great song as Alexander stated in an interview, "The goal was for each lyric and sentiment to be a story and a thought unto itself, but also to the greater mystery of life, which is that we are all just coming and going in this life. We are just a lost star. We are a spark on the horizon." And in the context of the story and Levine's other worldly voice it comes alive.

So today's song is a plea to go see "Begin Again" and discuss it with me. But also for all the sparks on the horizon, this one's for you.

Please, don't see
Just a boy caught up in dreams
And fantasies
Please, see me
Reaching out for someone
I can't see
Take my hand
Let's see where we wake up tomorrow
Best laid plans
Sometimes are just a one night stand
I'll be damned
Cupid's demanding back it's arrow
So let's get drunk on our tears
And God, tell us the reason
Youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season
And the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars
Trying to light up the dark
Who are we?
Just a speck of dust
Within the galaxy?
Woe, is me
If we're not careful
Turns into reality
But don't you dare
Let our best memories bring you sorrow
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer
Turn the page
Maybe we'll find a brand new ending
Where we're dancing in our tears
And God, tell us the reason
Youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season
And the lambs are on the run
We're searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars
Trying to light up the dark
I thought I saw you out there crying
I thought I heard you call my name
I thought I heard you out there crying
But just the same
And God, give us the reason
Youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season
And this lamb is on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars
Trying to light up the dark
I thought I saw you out there crying
I thought I heard you call my name
I thought I heard you out there crying
But are we all lost stars
Trying to light up the dark
But are we all lost stars
Trying to light up the dark

  1. Brilliant film! I really love the scene where we see the Open Mic Night from both Keira's and Mark Ruffulo's perspective. The build up of the song that Mark can hear shows how music can be brought together to create something grand from separate parts. Also the relationship between Mark and Keira's characters on screen is brilliant - the way they help one another work through their respective life problems. The tension and chemistry is great and how it all revolves around a love of expression through music is brilliant.
