it's times like these you learn to live again it's times like these you give and give again

Artist- Foo Fighters
Song of the day- Times like these

The Foo Fighters are in that category of band for me that is epic and awesome and I know the songs from the radio and I know they are amazing but seem so far up on that rock platform and at a distance to truly embrace. This is a ridiculous assumption I realized once I saw them in concert in the pouring rain as I wore a poncho and umbrella, chilled to the bone, knowing that they would cancel their set at lollapalooza like several other bands had to due to safety. Not only did I see probably the greatest rock show I will every see in my lifetime, but saw the most generous of musicians, soaked inside and out giving everything they had with the biggest genuine smiles on their faces. They may have been rock gods but it wasn't about basking in the glory but experiencing this amazing moment with tons of people with music.

As I watched their new docu-series "Sonic Highways" on HBO, I was reminded of their generosity that Chicago evening, and how they were outpouring again not with just their own music but the music of America, of a history that this musical nerd is dying to hear. So for those times in our own history in those shared generous moments, this one's for you.

I am a one way motorway
I'm the road that drives away
then follows you back home
I am a street light shining
I'm a white light blinding bright
burning off and on

it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again

I am a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
to hang the stars upon tonight
I am a little divided
do I stay or run away
and leave it all behind?

it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again
